You’ve decided to buy an American-Made Landmaster UTV because it goes where cars and trucks can’t, but have you decided on 2wd versus 4wd to get you there? Here are some things to consider to help make your purchase decision easier.
A Landmaster UTV has become indispensable for work and play and offers many benefits due to the number of different ways they can be used around your home, farm, worksite or trail. A Landmaster offers nimbleness and a capability other vehicles can’t offer thanks to high ground clearances, rugged tires and the ability to carry upwards of six occupants. The only thing tougher than a Landmaster UTV is deciding whether you purchase a 2wd, or 4wd unit. Don’t worry, we’ll help guide you through the benefits of each.
HOW TO DECIPHER THE DRIVE SYSTEM NAMES
A Four-Wheel Drive vehicle sends power to all four wheels to gain maximum traction. This system is often times abbreviated as 4WD, but more commonly referred to in UTVs like a Landmaster as, 4x4. (The first digit is the number of wheels and the second is the number that are driven) Conversely, a 2WD Landmaster UTV sends power to two wheels (in the rear) and is referred to as a 4x2.
BENEFITS OF A 4x2
Landmaster’s UTV line-up offers a 4x2 drive system on all gas-powered L3 and L4 models, as well as the electric-powered offerings in the AMP series. For all practical purposes, a two-wheel drive UTV will perform handsomely for most general light-to-medium duty work and play applications – Landmaster utilizes a limited slip differential (L3) to help improve traction, while a rear locking differential (L4 and AMP) option improves traction further by locking both rear wheels to spin together in loose terrain like mud and snow. With less components in the drive systems, a 4x2 UTV is easy to maintain and affordability is cost-efficient with a lower retail price tag.
THE ATTRACTION OF A 4x4
When tackling the toughest jobs and terrain, a 4x4-equipped Landmaster UTV really shines to improve traction. When all four wheels have the capability to rotate, you can pull heavier loads, climb higher hills and minimize stuck conditions. Landmaster offers an intelligent On-Demand 4wd system that auto-shifts for you – Engage the rocker-switch and the UTV detects when 4x4 mode needs to be engaged based on slippage presented to the rear wheels.
Landmaster offers the most complete line-up of American-made electric- and gas-powered UTVs designed for work, adventure or play and offers two choices of drive systems – 2WD or 4WD. Choosing which drive system is better for you comes down to realizing how, and where, your Landmaster will be most often used.
