Considering a Quiet, Powerful, and Made in America Electric UTV? We Dispel the Myths and Give You the Facts on Electric Vehicles.
With the only complete lineup of American-made electric UTVs, Landmaster is leading the way with quiet and powerful solutions to help you work easier and explore further. There’s no denying the positive momentum and rising tide electric vehicles are currently on. Much of this can be attributed to the incredible technology and mass market success of Tesla automobiles. Tesla in many ways has become the benchmark by which all other electric on-road vehicles are measured, and now Landmaster is plotting a similar leadership trajectory off-road.
More than just a me-too effort, a Landmaster EV UTV features leading-edge electric vehicle technology combined with rugged, and proven off-road toughness. The result is a family of electric side-by-sides delivering an ultra-smooth and quiet riding experience and an incredibly easy ownership experience. With no fuel required, no air filter, and no engine oil, maintenance and your impact on the environment is dramatically reduced. Plus, with no exhaust noise or fumes, you can enjoy a Landmaster EV indoors too.
With Landmaster ensuring electric off-road vehicles will be a part of our off-road riding future, we thought the time was right to give more insight and dispel some myths about electric vehicles. While they’re not for everyone, nor will they completely replace our internal combustion engines any time soon, in the right application and the right mindset, a Landmaster EV UTV has a place in our lives now and in the future. So, with that, here are ten things you need to know about electric off-road vehicles.
#1 POWER
The power and instant torque of an electric vehicle is amazing. Unlike an internal combustion engine having to “build” power and has a torque curve, an electric vehicle can hit instantly, and can retain peak power or peak torque indefinitely, or at least until the battery runs out. A Landmaster EV UTV can travel up to 30 mph with the simple push of a button.
#2 CHARGE TIME
You’ll see plenty of arguments against electric vehicles saying they take “forever” to charge. What they often leave out is how the vehicle is being charged. Charging speed or range is all about charging power. In the EV world, charge is referred to as miles of charge per hour. In other words, if you are charging at 30 miles per hour, you are adding 30 miles of range to your battery for each hour of charge. A Landmaster EV features an easy-access 110-Volt weather sealed charging port, meaning you can charge using a standard 15 or 20 amp household outlet with the provided Green EV charging cord. The Landmaster be charged from 0% to 100% in as little as 6 hours.
#3 TEMPERATURE
Yes, colder temperatures will reduce the overall range of your vehicle. Nearly all electric vehicle specs will give you best case scenario numbers. Extreme cold can reduce max-range anywhere from 20 to 35 percent. The Landmaster EV features an on-dash button allowing you to easily turn your battery on or off while you’re stopped to conserve battery power, thereby extending the range, even during cold weather conditions. Landmaster recommends charging their EV in temperatures above 40°.
#4 HILL CLIMBING
The Landmaster EV is rated to travel up hills 15-25°, however, long-distance hills can cause the EV to slow to 5mph in some cases. The Landmaster EV has been geared more towards speed vs. hill-climbing torque. So if you need a machine to go through the mountains or frequent hill climbs, an EV UTV may not be the right machine for you. Traveling up short, steep hills is no issue, it's really the long 1/4 mile hill climbs that start to cause the UTV to slow down and use up a lot more energy. For most users this will not be a concern, but it is always something you will want to consider before buying an EV UTV.
#5 RANGE
We already touched on this briefly, but the range you see listed in the specs is best case scenario - perfect conditions, perfect temperatures, and smooth and steady speeds. Landmaster electric UTVs feature an on-dash switch providing extended range operation by reducing overall peak power.
#6 STRANDED
We’ve all seen plenty of memes on social media poking fun at EV owners running out of juice in the worse situations. Obviously, this can happen, but you should also know most electric vehicles have several fail-safe operations in place to help you avoid this. Landmaster EV UTVs are equipped with an LED true state-of-charge meter in addition to an audible alert system notifying the operator when battery power reaches 10%.
#7 DEGRADATION
Batteries have a lifespan, and how you treat them will impact that lifespan. Contrary to the myths you read on social media about having to replace the battery of your electric car or side-by-side in a few short years, most modern EV vehicles have a battery life that will likely far outlive other parts of the vehicle, especially if you take care of it. The lithium batteries found on a Landmaster EV are rated to last up to 10 years with 3,500 recharge cycles. That’s nearly the equivalent of charging the battery every day for 10-years.
#8 HOME CHARGING
As pointed out earlier, charging with a standard 110 outlet is all you need to keep the Landmaster powered up and ready to ride. Dedicating a charging source and working with your local power company to charge during off-peak times can offer up additional savings.
#9 COST
With gas prices at near record highs and rising electric rates, what power source is right for you might be a moving target. But, when you factor in the additional maintenance required of an internal combustion vehicle, and if you look at off-peak charging programs, an EV vehicle can be cheaper to operate than a gas one. Cost aside, how you plan to use the vehicle and the environment it will be operated in will be more important in helping you decide between electric or an internal combustion option.
#10 NOT FOR EVERYONE
By no means do we think electric vehicles are for everyone. For any kind of long-distance trail ride we’re grabbing the gasser keys every time. But if your riding style or work requirements keep you close to home with the ability to apply a fresh charge every night, an electric side-by-side like a Landmaster EV UTV should be in your consideration set.
